All data pertaining to the app is stored locally on the device and is never sent to any server owned by me. There is no Pocket Button account and no Pocket Button database of users.
There are no ads, trackers, analytics or crash-reporting services in the app. The app only uses the internet for the optional features explicitly described below (currency conversion, Home Assistant and web requests you set up yourself).
Pocket Button accesses the following categories of data. Everything listed here stays on your device unless a section below says otherwise:
None of this data is sold, used for advertising or leaves the device.
Pocket Button uses Android's Accessibility API to detect presses of the volume buttons while your screen is off, to turn the screen off again after an action runs, and to run the system actions you choose (such as opening the notification shade or quick settings). It does not read what is on your screen or what you type, and nothing it observes is stored or shared.
If you use voice memos, audio is recorded only while the recording screen is open and is saved in the app's private storage on your device. If you use voice capture (speaking a message to share or save), the app uses your device's built-in speech recognition service to turn your speech into text. That service is provided by your phone (usually Google) and may process audio according to its own privacy policy; the resulting text goes only where you choose to send it.
When you convert currencies in launchpad, the app downloads the list of currencies and their exchange rates from a server I control. Only the list of rates is requested. The amounts and currencies you type are never sent, as the conversion is done on your device. Like any web request, the server briefly sees your IP address in order to respond.
If you connect Home Assistant, the app talks directly to the Home Assistant server address you enter, using the access token you provide, to list your devices and to run the actions you choose. No copy of this traffic passes through any server of mine. The access token is stored in a separate private file on your device that is excluded from backups and settings exports.
Actions you set up yourself, such as web requests (like webhooks), Tasker tasks, MacroDroid triggers, app shortcuts and custom intents, send exactly what you configured to the address or app you chose, and nothing else. If a web request contains the {text} placeholder, the text you type or speak is included in it. Searching the web or a map from launchpad opens your browser or maps app with your query.
If the user voluntarily decides to contact support, basic device details (Android version, app version, device model and language) are included as part of the generated email to help me investigate issues. This is only sent as part of the email and the user can see and edit its content before sending it. Only by clicking send on the email will the data be shared to me and it is only sent once.
Retention is controlled by you. Settings and memos persist until you delete them in the app or uninstall Pocket Button; uninstalling the app removes all data Pocket Button has stored on your device. Deleted memos can be restored for a few seconds before they are removed from your device. Settings files you export are ordinary files under your control, so delete them like any other file. No off-device copies exist for me to delete on your behalf; the only off-device data that could identify you is an email you have voluntarily sent to support, which you may request I delete at any time by emailing samrustonhelp@gmail.com.
Pocket Button's data is stored in the app's private storage, which Android isolates from other apps via the operating system sandbox. Currency rates are downloaded over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Home Assistant and web requests use whichever address you enter, so they are encrypted when that address uses HTTPS.
If this policy changes in a way that affects how user data is handled, the updated policy will be published at this same URL with a new effective date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's Play Store listing release notes.
